COSMIC SPLINTER SYNTHESIZER CATASTROPHE
LIMITED EDITION CASSETTE PRESSING
COSMIC SPLINTER is a new project from Simon Break, adding to his many aliases over several decades, including Jeux De Corps on Zombie Nation's Dekathlon records, THE EUROPEAN on Stolen Recordings out of the UK, and multiple releases under his own name on the LA-based NARCISSISTIC LEVIATHAN label.
Starting from his personal archive of unreleased electronic instrumental music going back to the late eighties, Break collages audio cliches appropriated from sci-fi movie soundtracks, pirate radio, computer games, 70s prog & the naïve futurism of early electronic music. SYNTHESIZER CATASTROPHE layers snatches of tv advertising, found audio, environmental noise, vintage drum machines, and digital and analog synthesis processed to the point of destruction.
Simon Break has been making music for over 30 years, both as a shape-shifting solo producer and as a contributor to a variety of pop and experimental music scenes, spanning his native London as a frequent collaborator with Piano Magic in the 1990s to his work with arch-conceptualists ICEBREAKER INTERNATIONAL in the 2000s. He has sung & performed live as THE EUROPEAN on Marc Riley's legendary BBC radio show, recorded multiple volumes of electro-acoustic and experimental music (FOR WILLIAM HOPE HODGSON, LIVE AT CASTLE GRAYSKULL, OVERFLOWERS), and been sponsored by NATO's cross-disciplinary NATOarts project to make work aboard a globe-traversing container ship. He currently resides in Los Angeles, where he continues to work on projects across the fields of music, open-source software, art, video, and electronics.
